We know what we are if we listen – don’t think to know. This trip to London was exceptional – each moment filled with so many challenges and emotions – triumphs to celebrate all over. “If there is no resistance, there is no purpose.” What’s fascinating is how I had faced resistance and did end up asking myself my purpose. What I heard back was that 1) perhaps my purpose was already done and 2) can there not be multiple purposes? instead of singular? This building was the only new construction on my list for London but I almost didn’t make it. Signals and opportunity arose and I knew this was my chance. Not only did it lead to this amazing space, but the other V&A East, the Aquatics Centre and visiting the Olympic Park in general- what a gift I am truly grateful for.
While I still believe the Rotterdam version is better in it’s architectural creativity this storehouse puts more on display and surprised me with its installations of interior spaces (note the Frank Lloyd Wright interior that should not be missed).
There is so much to scan- one could spend time again and again here finding gems. One of my favorite moments is to see a scaled model of the Schröderhuis – I chuckled with joy to myself and wish I had someone who could grasp just how much that meant to me.
Do stop into this centre whether you are a Bowie fan or not- the act of restoration is the act of creating history, as history is what we make it- not what it was.
A last minute call to turn around for one last look and took this quick shot of the exterior. As I write about the other V&A in the area, I need to due diligence and see the back side – wander I must.
