London: V&A East

Walk all the way around- more times than not, I never regret it. In a bit of a time crunch, I got to 3 sides externally, and even internally- did not buy tickets to the paid exhibits. When I look at this photos again, I’m curious to recall how much natural light reaches the exhibition spaces- it seems like the 2nd and 3rd floors may not if I carry the concept of the design from the sides I saw to the side that I did not.

Some beautiful details to note in this space- signage, lighting shining from the bottom of the railing, a double sided bench.

Art, like life, is a messy enterprise that we somehow we weave together a story to tell. The newer museums all have educational spaces, mostly for children, to come and explore the expression of these stories.

p.s. Exhibit wise, I don’t have a ton of clarity of the mandate of the V&A South Kensington vs the East or the other non storehouse spaces, but this one in East had the most Jain art I had ever seen. This East museum did one of the best jobs to weave across various cultures to tell a story and for that alone, it is worth it to visit.
