Afford yourself views of Grand Çamlıca Mosque (above), Ayasofa, Topkapi Palace and more – on my top visit list for Istanbul is the Galataport Promenade. I mention the Galataport Promenade a great deal in this Istanbul Museum of Modern Art – please reference it for how to get in to the area for the gorgeous walk along the strait (and also for access to that museum). I mention in that post how I returned to this area in the same trip – just 2 full days- so that must mean something… feeling resistance the first time, but fighting back against that to great reward.
Looking at my photos, I remember how wonderfully busy this area was with locals – enjoying the evening. Out of respect to the privacy of those around, I didn’t get a good long shot down the promenade- but another one for next time. Doing a 180 and walking backwards a bit is a favorite past hobby of mine – just this simple action can shift the way you experience the world.
Istanbul is a late town- with some areas open until 2am even on a weekday. I just scratched the surface of the city- and because these days were meant as recover for late nights before and after my visit, I prioritized sleep over getting out and about at night. I don’t know if this area is open late- but I know that the lighting of the buildings is probably excellent.
