Social media is a plague on human culture for the most part, but when it can channel into a constructive purpose it can do a job for sure- especially for events that are based on a time period or for a limited time. This installation from Delcy Morelos floated to the top in the “must see” exhibition list and reminded me that I had never successfully found this section of the Barbican. Goal + goal = better.
I think some subconscious goal is to dig and root around into every part of the maze of the Barbican. It is not obvious how to get to the Frobisher Crescent – I had to ask multiple staff, walk the wrong way, take an elevator… but finally I got there. From the aerial satellite view it looks like “it’s just right there” in 2D. Once you enter the Barbican though the complexity of the spatial plan is so extraordinary that it makes for many navigational mysteries. A bonus was that lo and behold the other coveted section of the Barbican I had never found was also in that area- the Conservatory.
A good job for an automated action for Claude or some other agent- would be to troll the Barbican website for when they release their limited dates for the Conservatory based on the time I would be traveling there. I spent some serious effort and the only weekend they didn’t release for was the one I could go.
Fun fact- Frobisher Crescent was named after Sir Martin Frobisher (1535-1594), sailor. Knighted during the ‘Battle of the Armada’. Buried St. Giles’ Cripplegate.
