Mexico City: Lago Algo

Mexico City is one that will never be exhaustible. Every walk I take, every turn I take there is some detail that I just fall in love with. The colors are so visceral. Lago Algo is buried deeper into Part 2 of Chapultepec – deeper than most tourists will go, but I consider myself hardly a tourist of Mexico City at this point. On a quick follow up trip to this one- the universe also has be finally cross off my list the weekly Sunday bike ride since the DJ I went to see called in sick (being out late usually the valid excuse for me never making it Sunday morning) and I was able to ride through the park…but still not deep enough. Must. Keep. Going.

Art week in Mexico City has become totally blown out. Since I initially went maybe 3-4 years ago, on the plus side it is much easier to access the smaller gallery or offshoot shows (I would put Lago Algo on this list) but on the down side it feels more superficial and noisy (not in sounds, but in people). There are of course great parties to be had (discovered Roca hi fi on this trip – impossible to get into but another one the universe dropped into my lap that day). This visit to Lago Algo was part of Art Week and it’s a wonderful exhibition space.

My challenge with AI is that it’s often not right. But are you informed enough to know it’s wrong? The installation caught just partially in the photo above is claimed by gemini to part of this exhibit which is believable considering the narrative, but then I see it documented here on a general post about the building. So what is true? I guess, I will have to return to Lago Algo to see if it was temporary and just moments of capture somehow causing confusion- perhaps meaning there is something unfinished for me at this place.

A stretch visit for a normal tourist, but when asked about the must sees on visiting the city- this sits right alongside Biblioteca Vasconcelos, and those who know the latter know what high praise that is indeed.
