I’m a big fan of Rem Koolhaus. I saw him speak once and talk about esoteric- but in the most fascinating way. He finished the IIT Campus Center while I was at the Institute of Design- oddly, I do not have any pictures of his work- nor Mies for that matter.
That being said, Kunsthal is not one of my favorites. Similar to the Kubuswonig in Rotterdam, I went to visit Kunsthal again on my return visit.
ArchDaily has some great photos of Kunsthal. There are two experiences I remember very distinctly from this building. First is the approach from the neighboring park- the approach from the street is lackluster in comparison. Second is the auditorium. I find that Koolhaus has a very mod use of colors in his work and this is a great example in my mind.
Otherwise, I don’t remember much from the exhibition space. According to the ArchDaily write up, the museum is mean to be “collection-less”- how very Dutch. Perhaps that why it feels so ungrounded?
