Another Herzog and de Meuron creation, the de Young Museum sits across the plaza from the California Academy of Sciences. On the plus side, the material used for the exterior creates a great texture, not to mention how it will weather over time and the tower provides an excellent 360 degree view of the city. The interior plan is a bit difficult to navigate, but the random cutouts for windows provide some nice daylight. There’s a large built in bench at the end which overlooks the sculture garden/ cafe- one of my favorite spots in San Francisco.
Also, the sister museum to the de Young is the Legion of Honor– also worth a visit.
