Rio de Janerio: Street Art Oct 2025

Gemini 3.1 Pro (dated Feb 25, 2026)– I am astonished at its capacity feeding it the photo above:

Based on the signatures and tags visible in the photo, we can definitely identify two prominent graffiti artists who contributed to this mural at the Beco das Carmelitas (also known as Beco do Pantera) in the Lapa neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro:

  • Juliana Fervo: If you look closely to the right of the large portrait of the woman with teal glasses, you can see her signature stacked in yellow text (“JULIANA FERVO”). She is a well-known autodidact urban artist and muralist from Rio, easily recognized by her vibrant portraits and floral styles.
  • Airá Ocrespo: Just below the portrait, right next to the black “Beco das Carmelitas” street sign, you can see the tag @AIRAOCRESPO. Airá (also known as Airá, o Crespo) is a staple of the Rio street art scene and was heavily involved in the project to turn this alleyway into an open-air urban art museum.

This specific alleyway is part of an ongoing revitalization project led by local artists to bring color and life back to the neighborhood.

Probably amongst a long list of things I did not to do in Rio, of which the basic walking the beach is one of them- going on a deep dive of Street Art in Rio is definitely one of them. There are some great tours available which would make for a good start but this city is ripe for just wandering around and turning all the corners to see what one would find. I said it before but I’ll say it again: Rio 2027.
