Side note: as I look across the 15 blog posts from the autumn of 2024 that I am about to write I am astonished by what I am able to and have been granted the opportunity to accomplish.
A friend posted this quote “Look around you. Appreciate what you have. Nothing will be the same in a year.” Another friend posted “Surrender to change or suffer.” (initially shared by tony y not, a new dj discovery).
In this new year, I arrive back home from Taiwan of which will be included in this set, knowing less than ever, but that in that discomfort curiosity and attentiveness to what the universe shows and delivers will be more important than ever.
In the series of doors from Mexico City, are they opening or closing? Each one so unique and utterly beautiful, these moments in time of pause to appreciate the smallest details are perhaps the most profound.
I go into 2025 with little hope. Waiting at a door- I think- not knowing whether to close it or open it. Sometimes we have choice and sometimes we miss it or have it taken away.
I start here with Hamburg- a door opened in this particular case.

We take the wounded and try to heal it- it is in our human nature to suffer, but how can we find a way to live? The Green Bunker, one of two, is a wonderful addition to the many buildings that are finding new purpose for their built presence. It a great mash up of the character and culture of St. Pauli, contemporary green architecture and a memorial to a history that should not be forgotten.

I believe this building has just opened with a couple of cafes, restaurants and a climbing gym (?) but shows great potential. I cannot imagine walking up this many, many set of stairs on a blistering cold Hamburg day- but the design is clever enough to get to the top spaces since the original foundation of the building had to stay intact.
We rented bikes (Hamburg City Cycles– high recommended) so it wasn’t too hard to get to this location. This was a last minute recommendation and I was happy to take the ride.
