The brain has an exceptional processing power. When we look at the power and also mystery of neural networks (analogous to mycelium), it’s no wonder that humans are actual able to function and mostly not get in the way of themselves- so much of what we do is intuitive.
When I scanned over the skyline of the Reforma and surrounding neighborhoods, one building immediately popped out to me an an anomaly – wedge shape at the top and almost no windows on an entire side. Sure I’ve seen pretty monolithic materials on builds but never on a skyscraper like this. My curiosity was peak levels.

I would get a couple good views of the other side building- one from a pedestrian bridge on the walk back from Polanco through the park to La Condesa for early dinner at Merkavá. I think if I had seen it from the windowed side, I wouldn’t have thought about it more than some other interesting skyscrapers that litter the city.
This building kicked off the walk and really rounded it out (this day covered the trio of museums in Bosque De Chapultepec I). I had so much on my to do list already, I think even at this early point in the trip I put it into the save for later bucket (where it still remains). As luck would have it, I stumbled on Arquine- an architecture publisher- at the art fair Zona Maco that I traveled to Mexico City for. To my surprise- there it was- just this building … and I said “an entire book on just that one?”… “do you have it in English?” The response I got was “yes, this guy is a genius”- something about designing for climate control and the environment. Always never having enough time- I look forward to finding it for learning more and then figuring out on a return for how to visit.
This trip was a stumbling of synchronicities one after another- I knew my brain was onto something! I naturally bought their only English copy on hand at the art fair. There was so much to be inspired by at the art fair (see gallery below)- but it was honestly this Arqine stall, this book, this building- that I knew without a doubt that this trip to Mexico City was exactly where I was destined to be: “what you seek is seeking you.”
